Makes sense that the larger format driver would be better at the lower frequencies (down to 500 hz) and the smaller 802-8G would be better higher up--like in the Model 19's (with the stock 1200 hz crossover) -- up to 20,000 hz. I've never listened to an 802-8G used with a 500 hz crossover. I have owned 806-8A and 807-8A drivers in (VOTT) P.A. systems with a 500 hz crossover and they sounded great but I'm sure the large format Altec drivers would have sounded better with the 500 hz crossover than those did as well......

I talked to Bill today.He said the problem with the 3182's is the pole pieces.They have to be specially made.And would be expensive for his machine shop to do them.My buddy owns a machine shop who I spoke to today about, so he is sending me some drawings.If I can have them made to specs we will work out some kind of deal hopefully. I'd like to have a couple pair myself.So we will see...
